To verify the legitimacy of an email sender, always look beyond the display name. You can do this easily in your email software. Inspect the actual email address closely; phishers often use slight variations of familiar addresses. Hover over any links (but don't click) to see where they lead. Additionally, check for spelling mistakes, unusual requests, or unfamiliar attachments. If anything seems out of place or suspicious, contact the sending company or individual directly using a phone number or email you know is genuine.
Good to Know: Most official organizations will never request sensitive information like passwords directly via email.
